Description: Turbiditic sandstone, greywacke, and mudstone; fine to coarse grained; comprising quartz, detrital muscovite, biotite, lithic fragments, K-feldspar and plagioclase grains in fine grained matrix; texturally immature; generally poorly sorted sublitharenite.
Comments: Variation of Glenthompson beds proposed by VandenBerg and Wilkinson (1982). Middle(?) Cambrian. The radiometric age given will be a max. age from detrital zircons, but the Glenthomson Sandstone is now (2016) believed to be older than the Mount Staveley Volcanic Complex, rather than younger. It is intruded by the high zirconium 'Chatsworth sill swarm', geochemically much more like the Truro Volcanics than the Mount Stavely Volcanic Complex.
